2019 Eclipse Trip to Chile

Milwaukee, WI – The Milwaukee Public Museum (MPM) invites you to experience the heavens’ most dramatic sky sight — a total solar eclipse — in South America in 2019 when they lead a seven-day, 6-night solar eclipse trip to Chile.

“The splendor of a total eclipse is unparalleled; there’s truly nothing like it,” said Bob Bonadurer, Director of the Daniel M. Soref Planetarium and Dome Theater. “After we got back from our 2017 eclipse trip to Missouri, we received an outpouring of gratitude from those who attended. We knew then we had to create more opportunities for our community to be able to take part in these once-in-a-lifetime events, even if it wasn’t in our backyard. We’re incredibly excited to be able to offer this unique trip in Chile.”

For the 2019 trip, the group will spend three nights exploring Santiago, taking tours of Cajon del Maipo and Isla Negra before going north for three nights of luxury “glamping” in the Andes. Far from any city lights, but with all the comforts of home as our Sibley tents house bed, bathroom and even a fireplace, the starry southern night sky will be a wonder to explore and a highlight of the trip.

For the pinnacle of the trip -- the eclipse that takes place on July 2 -- the group will view the eclipse with filtered telescopes, viewing glasses and protective observing tools to make this rare sky-sight the best experience possible.
